Effects of the Cognitive Stimulation Group Program Combined with Lifestyle Education: For the Elderly who use dementia care village in rural area

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to implement cognitive stimulation group program combined with lifestyle education for the elderly who use dementia care village in rural area and to investigate the effects on cognitive function and depressive symptom.

Methods: This study was designed using one group pre-post design and 16 elderly who use the senior community center in rural area participated into the study. Cognitive stimulation group programs combined with lifestyle education were conducted once a week for 10 weeks. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, MMSE-DS, SMCQ, and SGDS-K were conducted before and after the program.

Results: Based on the analysis of the data obtained through the pre- and post-assessment, Through MMSE-DS(p=.009) and SMCQ(p=.293), we have confirmed that the cognitive function has been maintained or improved. Significant changes were also seen in depression symptoms(p=.001).

Conclusion: Through the results of this study, we confirmed that the cognitive stimulation group program combined with lifestyle education is an intervention that can positively affect the cognition and depression of the elderly in the community. In addition, we confirmed that various programs can be operated effectively in the senior community center beyond facilities such as dementia care center or welfare center. We look forward to expanding opportunities to contribute to the health of the community through the senior community center.
